Narrative Essay Activity

A narrative essay is an essay organized with a thesis, introduction, body, conclusion, and transition words. The essay may use examples, anecdotes, or allusions etc. It is meant to tell a story and has a point. The author is telling a true story from her/his life and using that story to make a point (thesis) about some aspect of life.

Write a narrative essay on a DEFINING MOMENT in your life. It should be 500-1250 words long, no more, no less. Be sure to develop the introduction and conclusion and use paragraph form to develop the body.

  • The most important lesson I learned outside of school

Literary Terms- Definitions

Narrative essay: a short piece of writing that tells a story about the author's life, usually to make a point.

Poetry and Prose: two ways we can write, in lines and stanzas (poetry) and sentences and paragraphs (prose)

Content and Structure: Two levels of analyzing writing. Content is the detail, facts, the 'stuff', topic, that's being written about; structure is the way in which it is written (paragraphing, thesis, introduction, body, conclusion, transitions words, use of example, statistics etc.)
